We made it to Norway!

^^ My cute parents! ^^
Norway has always had a special place in my heart. My grandparents immigrated to the U.S. from Norway and have since served as LDS mission presidents in Olso, took our entire family to a reunion in 1996, and have kept the Norwegian traditions strong. My Mom & Dad used to visit my grandparents when they were on their mission, and fell completely in love with the whole country. My whole life, it seemed like if they ever vacationed… It was to Norway! I remember my Mom bringing home a suitcase filled with rolls of film because it was just THAT beautiful there. (You can also see where I got my love for the camera at a young age, hehe) That’s why it has been on my bucket list to road trip around Norway with my parents. I was so excited that the opportunity arose, when we stumbled upon some decent airline tickets! I excitedly called my Mom at 2am telling her that they needed to book their trip NOW…  And we all just went for it! Hahah! I have a hard time being apart from Lucy, but we decided to leave her at home to stay with her cousins. She definitely wouldn’t enjoy being strapped in a car seat for ten days… Plus, my sisters are way cooler than me anyway. 😉 We flew Norwegian Air and it was surprisingly the coolest airplane I’ve ever been on. It was super high tech with the giant windows and tint instead of shades.. It was a pretty comfortable and entertaining ride. We landed in Oslo and drove to Notodden to our first AirBNB! Rachel was our host, and she took us around back to our little cabin on the hill. It had the cutest view out the kitchen window. She laughed when we asked if their were any good restaurants in the area, because we were practically staying in the middle of nowhere! Ha! We were all filled with the excitement of ‘We are in NORWAY!’ and jumped right in the car to go explore and hopefully find some food. We stopped at the Heddal stave church and it was beautiful! I can’t fathom how people built stuff like that centuries ago. It was interesting to see how common my maiden name is, there was Haugen written on so many of the grave stones there. We drove around and stumbled upon a restaurant (A Norwegian Burger King). I felt like we were in Walter Mitty because the view out the giant glass window was spectacular and were just sitting in some little fast food restaurant. Mom didn’t realize that she had passed behind the counter to see the menu up close.. We all got a kick out of her standing right by the guy cooking the fries while telling her order!! Hahaha!! Silliness always breaks out when jet lag is involved. Mom and I got so giggly that night trying to figure out our hair situation. The converter broke and her curlers exploded! Hahah poor thing, of course it happened on the FIRST DAY. Better luck next time, I guess! Ha! I’m now looking through these pictures, and it’s clear to see why my Mom came home with so many rolls of film! Norway IS as beautiful as it is cracked up to be.

My son is serving there and he told of your visit today in his email. It is such a boost to the missionaries when someone comes running up to them excited to see them. Thank you for taking time to do that. Can't wait to go to Norway myself.

Hi Hailey! This is totally a whim that you'll get this, but I was curious if your glasses are prescription lenses, or if you use the glasses more for the look? I've been wanting some for the fall look just for fun, and didn't know if glasses.com had that option. Thanks so much!
