Bergen, Norway

My Mormor was raised in Bergen. She was my fun, loud & very opinionated grandma. She sure was a special lady. I remember her teaching me “manners” after causing a scene with my cousins at a restaurant (I put two straws up my nostrils and started laughing — It felt like I sniffed Sprite clear to my brain!) and her cheering me on (in her cute norwegian accent) as I learned to swim in their pool at a ridiculously old age. Her love for all of us grandchildren was very apparent. Aw man, I miss her.

She went through some pretty traumatic stuff in this little town during World War II. Her father passed away at sea, a bomb knocked her out of her out of her bed one night, and she was sent by herself to the countryside to live with a family she had never met.. For safety. After hearing all of her experiences, it made me walk these streets a little differently.. Holding a place for her in my heart.

I honestly don’t know how we got blessed with such great weather! It practically rains every day in this city. We ate pastries in front of Bryggen for breakfast and hopped on the Floibanen! We shopped a little, but my favorite part was just aimlessly walking all of the cute little streets and snapping pictures. Pictures are better than souvenirs, right!? Heh heh. Brad somehow scaled the walls in between the houses! Ooookay spiderman. Later we miscommunicated and lost Dad somehow as we were walking the streets. My Mom went around hollering “HAROLD!” as Brad and I were keeping our eyes peeled for him. I had a little kid in a grocery store moment: I saw a guy who looked just like my dad and wearing a similar backpack. I started running and hollering “DAD!” …Then I had the shocking realization that it wasn’t him as I was awkwardly way close :/ Hahaha! We later found him sitting on our path back into town, thank heavens. We then ran into the LDS missionaries and casually said hello… Then one of the Elder’s was like “Wait, are you the Devine’s?” Hahah my Dad’s eyes about popped out of his head, that they recognized us! Social media makes the world even smaller, and he just cannot fathom it. The Elders let us talk on the phone to my cousin Patrick who is serving in a different part of the country, and it was so great to hear from him. He seemed very happy and content with his mission. ๐Ÿ™‚

That was my son Eldste Dalton! He was just transferred to Olso this week. I don't know if you respond to comments but if you can share some insight on how you chose your airfare etc. I would appreciate it as I have a trip to plan for next May!
