Sunday: Struggles and New Goals

The most battling day of the week for me is… Sunday. At church I feel like I’m spending most of the time in the hallway, because of our curious (& quite noisy) little Lucy. She is all over the place! I’m thankful I found a modest dress that keeps me from flashing everyone, because I’m bending over chasing her around the whole time! Ha! But really, it’s been pretty crazy. I don’t have the energy for this! I feel like every week I ask myself “…Why am I even here!? Shouldn’t this be my day of rest!?” While, yes.. We are spending most of the time playing with the hangers in the hallway.. (Best distraction ever PS.) But I keep reminding myself how important that it is that we are there. Even though Lucy is super young, I love teaching her that this is what we do! We go to church on Sunday, and it is as simple as that. I hope that one day, as she gains her own testimony and will understand the importance too. ๐Ÿ™‚

On a different note, Brad and I realized that we are sometimes out of town 3 out of the 4 Sundays in the month. We usually play the “…But we’re on vacation!” card, and skip church when we are away. I started feeling our light & happiness fading when we weren’t attending church every week! SO we made a new goal. Wherever we are in the world, we are finding an LDS church to attend. No exceptions! Because it is a priority. I have already felt so much more light and happiness in my life after setting this goal!

Curious about what church we attend? Learn more here.

Great post! You are amazing Hailey! P.S some of the church meetings I have attended in a new place have been the best I've ever been to! The spirit there is so strong.. Even if I can't understand what they are saying. Enjoy it!

That's so awesome! It get's better with the baby as they get older. I used to feel the same way with our little boy, but now he can play with his toys, and he loves when the sacrament is passed. Nursery helps a ton too because he has something fun to look forward too. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you! Our babies our the same age and I feel the same way. Usually I give up and go home to put him to bed cause I'm not able to listen anyways. It's so hard but worth it to stick it out and just be obedient!

So true. I heard a sister once say that often we go to church just for the sake of our children because we as parents are often so busy with keeping them quiet. ๐Ÿ™‚

I hear ya about little ones being hard in church. I spend most of my time trying to keep my 14 month old baby girl happy, BUT I love that we are there. The spirit I feel is amazing, and it is so important. I think that this is an awesome goal! And I love the dress! I'm sad that it is sold out ๐Ÿ™

I tell you what, that period of time between when kids become mobile and they're old enough for nursery is SO hard! But it's all worth it. You are setting a great example for Lucy by going to church even when it's hard. And I think Heavenly Father is extra mindful of us mommies who go to church even when we're feeling like we aren't getting anything out of itโ€“I think He gives us extra blessings during the week just for that! Anyway, loved this post. You and Lucy are just too cute. ๐Ÿ™‚

I thought of this post yesterday as I was in the halls with my little girl, who I think is only a few weeks younger than yours. My baby has learned how to throw fits and scream if she doesn't get what she wants. So as the missionaries were trying to teach a spiritual lesson to the YW, I was forced into the hall so my girl wouldn't scream for not being able to play the piano. ๐Ÿ™

Anyway, this post lifted my spirits when I remember the reasons I keep trying every Sunday. Thank you for always "sharing goodness" and your wonderful testimony!

Your not alone! I am on child number 5 and I can't tell you how many years I have spent it the hallway. It is OK though because the most important thing is that you are in Church.

It does make a huge difference when you miss a lot of church being out of town as opposed to finding a chapel and attending! My family and I have always done that everytime we are on vacation, or away for the weekend. We started doing this since our kids were little and now they are 19, 15, 10, and five. I'm glad to hear y'all have committed to do that as opposed to "skipping" church. Another thing my family and I do is when we are on any kind of vacation we find a temple as well and do a session! That keeps our marriage even stronger, and the kids have learned to love that tradition! We lead by example to our kids, and in the end they have a choice, but I'm so glad you are beginning to do that while your daughter is young! Keep it up, and no matter how much fun you're having while out of town just go to church…you'll feel so much better, and glad you went!
